Warfel Construction is seeking a dedicated Construction Superintendent to oversee our projects from our Winchester, VA location. The Superintendent plays a crucial role in managing all aspects of construction on-site, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role demands strict compliance with all safety protocols and regulations set forth by Warfel.

Work Schedule: The standard work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, including a 30-minute lunch break. There may be occasional Saturday work and overtime as necessary. Reliable transportation is essential due to varying travel requirements to job sites. The ability to adapt to changing work environments and weather conditions is also required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret project plans and specifications, analyzing construction methods and scheduling for effective work sequences.
  • Foster a culture of safety on-site, ensuring compliance with safety practices among all personnel, including subcontractors and visitors.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and promote safety discussions through weekly Toolbox Talks.
  • Maintain comprehensive Daily Logs documenting all activities occurring on-site.
  • Develop and manage 3-week lookahead schedules, collaborating with project management for overall updates.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to schedule necessary deliveries and manpower, promptly addressing any issues that may arise.
  • Work closely with the Director of Field Operations, Foreman, and Project Manager to ensure timely availability of manpower, equipment, and supplies.
  • Establish and uphold dimensional controls for the project, potentially utilizing third-party surveyors.
  • Supervise subcontractor workmanship to ensure compliance with project specifications and Warfel quality standards.
  • Review shop drawings and field measurements to verify design requirements prior to material fabrication.
  • Procure miscellaneous jobsite materials and supplies as authorized by the Project Manager.
  • Ensure that any changes to contract documents are properly authorized before proceeding.
  • Engage with client representatives to discuss project status and address any inquiries.
  • Oversee Warfel field labor, providing recommendations for promotions and terminations as well as performance evaluations.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience in commercial construction.
  • Strong background and training in construction practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Spend approximately 80% of the time on an active construction site, navigating uneven terrain and varying weather conditions.
  • Occasionally move within the office environment to manage business materials.
  • Regularly operate office machinery and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 50 lbs may be required.
  • Working at heights and using safety equipment such as ladders and scaffolds is necessary.
  • Physical activities may include bending, kneeling, and climbing as needed.
