Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in providing advanced technical support to the Ophthalmology Clinics, Faculty, and Residents at University Hospital in Newark, NJ. This position requires a high level of expertise and attention to detail to facilitate patient care and efficient clinic operation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to Ophthalmology Clinics, Faculty, and Residents
  • Perform various services to facilitate patient care and efficient clinic operation
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure seamless patient care
  • Maintain accurate records and reports
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • 2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Ophthalmic Technician
  • JCAHPO Certification at the Ophthalmic Assistant level required at hire
  • Ophthalmic Technician certification to follow within one year of hire
  • Current CPR Certification
Physical Demands

This position requires:

  • Standing or walking 2/3 of the time
  • Sitting approximately 1/3 of the time
  • Use of hands to handle or feel over 2/3 of the time
  • Reach with hands and arms approximately 1/3 of the time
  • Stoop, kneel, or crouch 1/3 of the time
  • Talk or hear over 2/3 of the time
Work Environment

This role involves working in a moderate noise environment with exposure to blood-borne pathogens that requires the use of personal protective equipment.
