Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiovascular Technologist to join our team at Lifespan. As a key member of our cardiovascular laboratory, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining complex analytical recording and radiology equipment used for patient monitoring and cardiac catheterization procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and activate monitoring and recording equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Balance and calibrate equipment such as hemodynamic recorders, blood gas apparatus, and cardiac output computers.
  • Operate various biomedical equipment to monitor patient status and acquire data during cardiac catheterization procedures, including digital angiography computers, ECG machines, and cardiac output computers.
  • Set up fluoroscopy and cineangiography radiologic equipment as prescribed by physicians.
  • Assist in maintaining and providing supplies and equipment for the laboratory.
  • Record and maintain raw data, making calculations for determination of derived data.
  • Constantly assess equipment for proper functioning, reliability, and cleanliness, notifying the Cardiovascular Laboratory Manager of malfunctions.
  • Monitor patient hemodynamic status during procedures and alert physicians of changes in pressure, heart rate, cardiac rhythm, oxygen saturation, or blood gas results.
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in biological sciences, allied health program, biomedical engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year previous experience in cardiac catheterization laboratory or similar environment.
  • Technical ability to set up and maintain sophisticated analytical recording, radiology, and photographic equipment.
  • Ability to understand concepts pertaining to equipment operation and cardiovascular physiology and disease.
  • Mathematical skills to perform calculations of data.
  • Verbal skills to comprehend technical and medical terminology and communicate information effectively.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Works in a laboratory with some exposure to hazards such as radiation from x-ray equipment, blood samples, and electrical shock from high voltage cables, but risks are minimized by adherence to established radiation safety precautions.

Physical ability to assist with transport and transfer of patients and to stand for prolonged periods during procedures, at which time a lead apron is worn.
