Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiovascular Technologist to join our team at Lifespan. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of technical and related duties in support of the activities of the catheterization laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the examination room is properly supplied, equipped, and operational before procedures.
  • Select, set up, and operate angiographic and hemodynamic equipment necessary for catheterization laboratory procedures.
  • Assist patients in assuming required positions and instruct them regarding the procedure.
  • Set up sterile equipment and trays, assist with sterile draping and procedures, and attach defibrillator monitors and observe ECG rhythms.
  • Determine blood oximetry from blood samples and operate image archival backup systems during procedures.
  • Monitor right and left heart pressure, balance gauges for accuracy, and verbalize changes to physicians and staff.
  • Process and develop 35mm cine films of procedures, review and edit film utilizing knowledge of cardiac anatomy for quality assurance purposes.
  • Responsible for operating digital equipment, including digital image acquisition and processing, and reproducing images on a CD.
  • On a rotation basis, monitor radiation of catheterization laboratory personnel, distribute badge inserts monthly, and review monthly reports.
  • Troubleshoot angiographic and hemodynamic equipment and assist the manager or designee in arranging for repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Complete records pertinent to procedures performed and fill out charge slips for billing purposes.
  • Maintain established hospital and department policies, procedures, and objectives for quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to an Associate's Degree, including Cardiopulmonary Respiratory Therapy or Radiologic Technology Training.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist preferred. BLS certification required within six months of employment. ACLS preferred. Must be able to recognize common cardiac arrhythmias within six months of employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • One year of Radiology, Exercise Physiology, or Cardiology experience. Cardiac Cath Lab or special procedures experience required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Healthcare environment, such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized or nullified by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions, including the use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
