The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Superintendent to provide overall direction on projects, develop and maintain strong working relationships with owners and architects, and ensure project performance, site conditions, safety, and quality standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day job site activities, ensuring OSHA safety compliance and effective management of trade partners.
  • Direct field personnel according to project plans and Suffolk supervisory principles.
  • Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager.
  • Report problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate cost-effective solutions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with clients, Suffolk team members, subcontractors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Request advice and assistance from the General Superintendent or Project Executive on matters related to materials, sequencing, scheduling, logistics, and personnel.
  • Project Start-Up/Turnover Meeting: Identify pre-mobilization activities with the Project Executive, General Superintendent, and Project Manager.
  • Scheduling: Assist in formulating and implementing construction schedules in the field, establishing and implementing the Project Baseline Schedule, and maintaining the schedule to meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Safety: Ensure all subcontractors participate in a safety pre-construction meeting, have a full set of MSD sheets, and a site-specific safety plan.
  • Quality Management: Ensure all pertinent benchmarks are established and inserted into the baseline schedule, and all inspections are approved, documented, and communicated to the project team.
  • Subcontractor and Site Management: Manage site pre-construction, mobilize the field office, and maintain the job site to Suffolk standards.
  • Meeting Management: Attend project turnover, mobilization, and project coordination meetings, as well as safety pre-construction meetings and weekly foreman and safety meetings.
  • Administrative Management: Complete construction office checklists, maintain logs of key activities, files, and shop drawings, and ensure as-built working drawings are maintained.
  • Project Closeout: Manage subcontractor closeout, transfer of utilities, owner training, work list, and punch list.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline and experience relative to project size and scope.
  • 8 to 12 years of experience in construction fields.
  • Applicable area licenses.
  • Excellent team development skills and leadership abilities.
  • Strong ability to partner with the Project Manager and staff.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Capable of dealing with ambiguity and tight work oversight.
  • Able to constantly multi-task and handle competing priorities.
  • Business judgment to negotiate the critical balance between budget and construction processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to take action confidently and decisively.
  • The ability to manage and embrace change.

Working Conditions

The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking is required.
