Job Overview:

The Retail Sales Representative is responsible for selling a variety of merchandise to customers by utilizing effective selling techniques. This role is integral to a collaborative sales team that strives to provide exceptional service, aiming to not only meet but exceed customer expectations. Responsibilities include overseeing the operation of the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, which encompasses tasks such as opening and closing procedures, preparing and displaying products, restocking items, and maintaining cleanliness of the work area.

Key Responsibilities:

For Minimarts with a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar:
  • Welcomes and engages customers in conversation to provide assistance with their purchases. Aids in product selection and suggests complementary items. When appropriate, presents customers with options for extended warranties, explaining the benefits and pricing.
  • Maintains a friendly and professional demeanor while interacting with customers and colleagues, adhering to company dress code and supporting team members as needed.
  • Gains comprehensive knowledge of merchandise, including setup, usage, care, and characteristics of various products, and effectively communicates this information to customers.
  • Ensures that assigned areas are well-stocked and merchandise is organized. Communicates with supervisors regarding inventory levels, customer preferences, and any issues that arise. Actively participates in team meetings to discuss ways to enhance customer service and achieve sales goals.
  • Processes sales transactions accurately and efficiently, expressing gratitude to customers for their business.
  • Handles cash register operations, ensuring all transactions are conducted correctly and in accordance with procedures.
  • Informs customers about upcoming promotions and services available, such as gift wrapping and delivery options. Encourages customers to consider opening a NEXCARD account and explains its benefits.
  • Familiarizes oneself with store policies and procedures, including returns and price matching, and addresses customer concerns with professionalism.
  • Maintains vigilance in assigned areas to provide excellent customer service and deter theft.
  • Assists in unpacking and organizing merchandise, creating attractive displays, and conducting periodic inventory checks.
  • Completes necessary paperwork related to inventory movement, pricing adjustments, and cash register operations accurately.
  • Participates in commission and gainsharing incentive programs as applicable.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. as part of job responsibilities, including assisting customers and restocking merchandise.
For Minimarts with a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar:

Incumbents may be required to perform a combination of the following tasks:
  • Open and close the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar.
  • Ensure all equipment is operational during opening and closing.
  • Preheat and display products in the heated display merchandiser.
  • Replenish products and condiments to ensure availability for customers.
  • Time/date all products remaining at the end of business hours for quality assurance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and small wares throughout the day.
  • Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures regularly to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Attend food safety training sessions as required.
Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

This position is represented by the American Federation of Government Employees, Local 53.

No prior experience is required; a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
