Department Overview

The Technical and Instructional Support Group (TIG) is a vital component of our engineering department, comprising skilled professionals dedicated to enhancing educational and research initiatives. This group plays a crucial role in supporting various engineering disciplines, including Robotics, Manufacturing, and Materials Science.

The Director of the Technical and Instructional Support Group will work closely with department leadership to provide strategic oversight and expertise in laboratory design, development, and implementation. This role involves comprehensive management of all areas related to technical and instructional support, including engineering services and student access facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Personnel, Operations, & Financial Management (45%)
  • Oversee the unit's operations, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives and providing leadership across all functional areas.
  • Manage coordination of activities, ensuring effective resource allocation and compliance with budgetary policies.
  • Ensure the safety and proper training of staff and students in the use of laboratory equipment.
  • Direct financial resources related to technical support and instructional laboratory renovations.

Planning, Policy Recommendation, & Compliance (25%)
  • Engage in strategic planning for the department, ensuring effective coordination of activities to meet operational needs.
  • Recommend policy changes to enhance technical and instructional support services.
  • Provide expert guidance on safety and emergency preparedness protocols.

Instructional Laboratory Implementation (25%)
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of instructional laboratory programs and policies.
  • Coordinate engineering activities to support both instructional and research initiatives.

External Relations (5%)
  • Represent the department in discussions related to engineering design and laboratory initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering functions and safety policies.
  • Strong management and communication skills to effectively lead diverse teams.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and address challenges effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate-level coursework is preferred.
