Overview

Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) is responsible for managing the intake process for the COVID-19 Emergency Hotel Program, in collaboration with the Fairfax County Department of Social Services. This initiative encompasses multiple hotel locations, providing essential emergency accommodations for residents requiring quarantine or isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The intake hotline will be operational 12 hours a day, seven days a week, ensuring continuous support for individuals in need. The designated QPID (Quarantine, Protection, Isolation, and Decompression) facilities are specifically structured to assist those who are:

  • At high risk for severe illness
  • In need of a safe environment to promote social distancing
  • Confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • Experiencing symptoms and seeking testing
  • Exposed to confirmed COVID-19 cases

Key Responsibilities

The Intake Specialist will play a crucial role in facilitating hotel access through the dedicated intake hotline. The majority of the work will be conducted remotely via phone.

  • Respond to inquiries from potential clients and community partners.
  • Determine appropriate hotel assignments for eligible clients.
  • Coordinate medical transportation and arrival logistics with the selected hotel.
  • Review and communicate hotel policies and expectations to guests prior to their arrival.
  • Conduct thorough initial screenings to assess eligibility for program services, including assessment, intake, and enrollment as necessary.
  • Ensure accurate data entry to maintain unduplicated client records.
  • Stay updated on program software, including the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Engage in regular supervision sessions with the Intake Coordinator to provide updates on client interactions.
  • Make referrals to additional services as required and collaborate with community providers to deliver comprehensive support.
  • Maintain client files in compliance with program standards and NVFS policies.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates should possess a variety of skills acquired through professional, personal, educational, or volunteer experiences. The following qualifications are essential:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in direct service.
  • Fluency in English, with bilingual capabilities in other languages (such as Spanish) preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic technology, including computers, email, and internet usage, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with clients over the phone.
  • Demonstrated respect and understanding of diverse client situations.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.

  • Successful completion of background checks upon hiring.
