Key Responsibilities

Overview

The Digital Printing Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Textile Design, Fashion Design, Visual Communication, and Surface Imaging programs within the School of Design and Engineering. This position involves operating sophisticated digital printing and screen printing equipment, as well as managing finishing tools. The specialist also aids in applied research initiatives involving faculty, staff, and students, while contributing to the professional imaging sector.

Core Duties

  • Engage with colleagues, visitors, and other personnel in alignment with the values upheld by the institution.
  • Oversee maintenance and servicing of 12 advanced digital printers tailored for textiles and non-porous materials, along with associated finishing apparatus (such as fabric steamers, heat presses, and rotary calendars) and computer systems.
  • Manage inventory and procurement for digital printing resources, including printers, software (RIP, color management), and substrates.
  • Guide and support students in all facets of digital printing at the Center of Excellence in Surface Imaging.
  • Ensure the upkeep and servicing of screen printing systems (including screens, print tables, colorations, exposure units, and washing units) and finishing equipment (steamers, washer/dryer, etc.).
  • Handle inventory and procurement for screen printing resources, including screens, colorations, auxiliary chemicals, and other related supplies.
  • Maintain mailing lists for prospective students and industry professionals in the imaging sector.
  • Facilitate communication between labs and programs, including Textile Design, Fashion Design, Surface Imaging, and any other relevant programs.
  • Coordinate communications with industry clients regarding applied research projects.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Educational Background:

  • A high school diploma is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Professional Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in the digital print and screen print industry.
  • Experience in an academic setting is preferred.
