QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Must be credentialed to practice within a medical facility; possess current malpractice insurance; demonstrate strong clinical judgment and communication skills.

Preferred: In-depth knowledge of pediatric development and primary care for children; comprehensive understanding of child abuse, including evaluation and management of children who have faced sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect.

Licensure/Registration/Certification: Current Family Medicine or Pediatric Medical Doctor, Nurse, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with SANE certification within the scope of practice.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Must maintain good overall health. Ability to frequently stoop, bend, and reach is essential. Must be capable of sitting for extended periods, with occasional walking and standing, and able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must exhibit calmness and prioritize tasks effectively in busy and stressful environments. Requires visual, auditory, and fine motor skills necessary for office procedures and general medical practice.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Complete adequate training in child abuse evaluation prior to conducting independent examinations.
  • Conduct examinations on children for potential sexual or physical abuse or neglect, adhering to established medical guidelines and protocols.
  • Perform evaluations in acute/emergency settings as required.
  • Provide brief medical evaluations and screenings for drug-endangered children as per established policies.
  • Order appropriate laboratory and radiologic studies and treat disorders related to child abuse, following standard care practices.
  • Diagnose cases of child abuse and neglect.
  • Document medical evaluations in written reports.
  • Remain available for consultation with multidisciplinary partners regarding individual cases.
  • Provide expert witness testimony as needed during legal proceedings.
  • Participate in monthly examiner meetings and additional training programs.
  • Maintain competency in child abuse evaluations through literature review and attendance at relevant conferences.
