Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Genetic Counselor Assistant to join our team at Children's National Hospital. The successful candidate will provide clinical support to our genetic counseling team, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Clinic Preparation
    • Contact referring physicians and obtain patient records
    • Coordinate patient DNA sample collection and submit add-on order requests
  • Post-Clinic Duties
    • Complete test requisition forms and track test results
    • Communicate normal test results to patients and draft clinical summary letters
  • Administrative Support
    • Organize and maintain correspondence, files, and records
    • Assist with closing of cases and uploading medical records
  • Communication and Liaison
    • Serve as a liaison to other managers and staff members, internal and external customers
    • Communicate and coordinate instructions and desires with various individuals and/or departments/divisions
  • Office Technology and Project Coordination
    • Draft and type routine letters and memos
    • Utilize various software and/or learn new computer applications to meet unique work needs and improve productivity
    • Prioritize and coordinate projects, and follow through on issues in a timely manner
  • Safety and Organizational Commitment
    • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
    • Partner in the mission and uphold the core principles of the organization
    • Maintain confidentiality at all times
Requirements
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Preferred)
  • Work Experience
    • 1 year Administrative/clerical experience, preferably in a challenging and fast-paced environment (Preferred)
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Ability to master and navigate EMRs (Cerner, Epic, etc.)
