Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gastroenterology Section Chief to lead the Gastroenterology Division at Virginia Commonwealth University. As a key member of the Department of Internal Medicine, this individual will be responsible for the strategic direction, management, and administration of the division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Leadership: Provide clinical services in gastroenterology clinics, including inpatient and outpatient management of patients with GI conditions, and participate in attending on the Digestive Health Service.
  • Teaching and Education: Provide teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows in the management of patients with GI conditions.
  • Leadership and Administration: Oversee divisional programs, including IBD, GI Fellowship training, Pancreas/Biliary, and Women's Health, and set up Sites of Excellence for Endoscopy, Esophagus, and Nutrition.
  • Research and Development: Initiate and oversee clinical research activities, and collaborate with other departments to advance the field of gastroenterology.

Requirements:

  • Board Certification in Gastroenterology
  • Facility with Diagnostic Endoscopy
  • Current license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Previous experience in division or department leadership position in an academic institution
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
