Position Overview

The Alpine Racing Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily management of public and private alpine racing activities in Snowmass, while also facilitating all operational elements of competition-oriented events across the various mountains. This role will work closely with the ASC Events & Partnerships, Snowmass Operations, and Ski & Snowboard Schools teams to ensure smooth operations, event execution, and the development of new race-related initiatives. This leadership role is crucial in fostering a vibrant racing culture within ASC and the Roaring Fork Valley.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $58,000 - $76,000, with actual compensation dependent on budgetary considerations and individual experience. All salaried positions are eligible for bonuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily setup, dismantling, and upkeep of racecourses or event venues.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with Snowmass Mountain Operations and Guest Services teams.
  • Organize, prioritize, and train team members to fulfill operational requirements aligned with divisional objectives, standard operating procedures, and end-of-season evaluations.
  • Manage inventory and procurement processes for the race department to ensure that supplies and equipment are maintained in optimal condition.
  • Assist the Competition Services Director with financial assessments and budget planning.
  • Supervise assigned race events and related programming operations in accordance with ASC standards and budgetary expectations.
  • Manage aspects of events requiring shared staffing support.
  • Coordinate private racing events across the mountains and liaise with Mountain Operations for necessary assistance.
  • Engage in the planning, development, and execution of ongoing race operations, including NASTAR and Town Race Series.
  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities for business expansion in collaboration with the S3 and Events Management Team.
  • Serve as a course/race official for USSA/FIS sanctioned events as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to strategize and organize operations while enhancing product knowledge and understanding.
  • Develop and manage staffing plans in compliance with ASC employment standards for designated responsibilities.
  • Lead efforts in employee recognition, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
  • Participate in comprehensive end-of-season evaluations of individual and departmental strengths and areas for improvement, and actively engage in future planning.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A minimum of 4 seasons in the winter sports sector.
  • At least 2 seasons in a role related to racing and winter events.
  • USSA/FIS race official certifications are mandatory.
  • A college degree is preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills, including point of sale and scheduling software, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience in racing or involvement with a racing program is advantageous.
  • Snowmobile experience is beneficial.
  • Advanced skiing or snowboarding skills are required.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written; additional language skills, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.
  • A current, valid driver's license is necessary.

Additional Information

Supervision Structure

This position involves general supervision over the Competition Services Crew, including assigning various routine tasks and setting expectations in line with company policies. Responsibilities encompass interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints.
The role operates under the general supervision of the Competition Services Director, receiving ongoing or individual assignments and performing routine tasks as needed. Quality, quantity, and deadlines are clearly defined, with guidance available as necessary.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend, or remain on their feet for extended periods. Regular work in various weather conditions may require protective gear to mitigate exposure to the elements, and employees may need to navigate slippery and uneven surfaces. The role may involve frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of up to 50 lbs, either independently or with assistance. Skiing or snowboarding is a requirement for this position.
