DEPARTMENT: School of Nursing

SCHEDULE: Days / Evenings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution recognized by the US Department of Education
  • Preferred two years of academic teaching and leadership experience

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all academic programs;
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and Dean of Academics to enhance program development, execution, evaluation, and assessment;
- Conduct systematic reviews of programs to ensure quality, contemporary course content, best practices, and compliance with regulatory standards;
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by the President, Program Coordinator, or Dean of Academics;
- Participate in committees as designated;
- Report to the designated program coordinator.

Personnel Responsibilities:
- Engage in faculty recruitment and make hiring recommendations;
- Arrange class coverage during absences and emergencies;
- Foster positive relationships within the department, campus, and community;
- Maintain a minimum of three office hours weekly for student support;
- Ensure punctuality in class and clinical commitments;
- Exhibit professional behavior and standards in the workplace;
- Act as a change agent by promoting innovative educational practices;
- Engage in professional development to enhance effectiveness in the role;
- Complete a minimum of 23 continuing education hours annually:
o For nursing
 10 hours must relate to NLN Nurse Educator Core Competencies;
 5 hours must relate to course content; and,
 8 hours may cover other relevant topics.
- Provide recommendations for equipment and software acquisitions and maintenance contracts.

Administrative Duties:
- Participate in budget planning;
- Attend and contribute to faculty meetings;
- Engage in accreditation reviews and reporting;
- Assist in program development, policy evaluation, and curricular revisions;
- Support student and faculty recruitment and orientation;
- Participate in student advisement and orientation.

Committee Responsibilities:
- Attend and engage in at least one program committee;
- Serve on the assigned program Advisory Committee;
- Participate in organization-wide committees as requested.

Advising:
- Act as an advisor for students;
- Provide guidance in academic and personal development;
- Develop remediation plans for students;
- Schedule regular meetings with at-risk students;
- Assist students in identifying and utilizing resources for success.

Curriculum Development:
- Implement course syllabi with all requirements and assignments;
- Submit suggestions for syllabus and program changes to the Curriculum Chair and Program Coordinator;
- Design and implement new curricula;
- Participate in curriculum evaluation;
- Ensure curricula align with institutional philosophy, mission, current healthcare trends, and community needs.

Instructional Responsibilities:
- Maintain classroom control;
- Develop course and clinical syllabi reflecting college philosophy and objectives;
- Utilize diverse teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles;
- Encourage active student participation through practice and application;
- Demonstrate mastery of subject matter;
- Consider diverse cultural backgrounds in teaching;
- Foster collaborative faculty-student relationships;
- Provide or utilize materials that enhance learning and adhere to the syllabus;
- Exhibit professional behavior and standards;
- Fulfill additional responsibilities for clinical supervision, including:
o Participate in clinical orientation as required;
o Complete validations as per clinical agency contracts;
o Orient students to clinical facilities;
o Supervise students in patient care settings;
o Conduct pre and post conferences with students;
o Schedule make-up clinical sessions as needed;
o Maintain ongoing evaluations of student progress in clinical settings;
o Provide timely feedback to students.

Evaluation:
- Assess students in both theoretical and clinical courses;
- Participate in peer evaluations when requested;
- Review student evaluation summaries and utilize feedback for future course planning;
- Engage in program planning based on student and employer feedback.

Workload:
- Full-time, part-time, and per diem faculty have responsibilities for classroom, clinical, lab, and simulation duties as assigned.

- Full-time faculty will have a teaching load of no more than 24 academic credits per academic year.

- Part-time and per diem faculty will have a teaching load of no more than 12 academic credits per academic year; this load may be divided between theory and clinical instruction as needed.
- Faculty are also required to maintain 2-4 office hours weekly, attend all course and faculty meetings, and participate in graduation and special events.
- Faculty have professional responsibilities critical to maintaining competence and supporting the institution, including committee work and service.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Credit to clock hours conversion:
Semester = 15 weeks
1 credit =
15 hours of lecture
30 hours of laboratory/simulation
45 hours of externship/clinical.

Community Engagement Duties:
- Participate on program-specific advisory boards involving major stakeholders;
- Assist in publicizing and disseminating information about the program.

Desired Qualifications:

Preferred two years of teaching experience
Certification as a Nurse Educator preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.

Required Licensure:

Professional license applicable for the program of study (e.g., RN, RT, Surgical Tech) required. License not necessary for non-clinical teaching.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required for Nursing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, with occasional walking or standing. Jobs are classified as sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PAY RANGE:

$95,000 - $105,000.00

NOTE:

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full-time applicant. It may be modified in the future and is eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
