Job Summary

Shape Corp is seeking a highly skilled Production Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations department, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of our production team, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaison between production and engineering departments: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Run day-to-day shop activities: Lead, direct, and train employees to achieve optimal productivity and quality.
  • Work with management in all departments: Schedule, prioritize, organize floor space, and control production activities to minimize rework.
  • Manage and organize work groups: Support and implement lean manufacturing initiatives to drive efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate in new order kick-off meetings: Review orders for content, manufacturing hours, and project scheduling.
  • Monitor external vendors: Solicit proposals, select vendors, and ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Work with HR: Interview and hire qualified personnel.
  • Establish measurable objectives: Coordinate with the company's performance management system to set goals for employees.
  • Track employee vacation and personal day logs: Manage attendance and time-off records.
  • Counsel employees: Provide guidance on job performance and development, and make recommendations for terminations.
  • Manage install schedules: Coordinate with integration teams to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Ensure material flow: Support production plans to meet business goals and customer demands.
  • Identify needed labor: Ensure sufficient resources are allocated to production bottleneck areas.
  • Report process improvements: Inform management of ideas for improving processes and project time change impacts.
  • Assist employees: Provide support with blueprint reading, material identification, and quality control.
  • Recognize and correct unsafe practices: Ensure a safe working environment.
  • Work with the HR Manager and safety committee: Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Utilize hand and power tools: Perform tasks that require manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Administer employee timesheets: Manage attendance and time-off records.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for the Production Staff, Independent Contractors, and Temporary Workers.

Travel and Location

Travel is estimated at 5-10%. This position is on-site.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of industry standards: Familiarity with manufacturing processes and quality control procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in 5S and Lean Manufacturing: Understanding of lean principles and 5S methodology.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, CAD Drawings, and other software applications.
  • Strong understanding of robotic systems: Familiarity with robotic equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing environment for industrial equipment: Understanding of industrial equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints: Familiarity with blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of mechanical fits and limits: Understanding of mechanical principles and tolerances.
  • Electrical and/or mechanical aptitude: Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability/experience/licensed to operate forklift and overhead crane: Certification to operate heavy machinery.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making ability: Ability to lead and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and budget accordingly: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
  • Self-motivated and works well in a team environment: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education and Experience
  • Post-secondary education in a related field: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in an automation and manufacturing environment: Experience in a manufacturing or automation environment, or a combination of education and experience.
