Role Overview:
The Adult Nutrition Education Specialist plays a vital role in assisting caregivers of young children and other limited-resource individuals to make healthier dietary choices, maximize nutrition while minimizing food costs, and promote physical activity.

Program Goals:
In partnership with various organizations, the Virginia Family Nutrition Program is dedicated to alleviating nutrition insecurity and reducing the prevalence of chronic diseases. This is achieved by empowering families with practical skills that foster smarter shopping, healthier eating, and increased physical activity.

Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, enroll, and educate adult participants in both individual and group settings, utilizing in-person, telephonic, or video-conferencing methods.
- Deliver instruction on essential topics such as food resource management, nutrition, food preparation, and physical activity.
- Collaborate with local agencies and organizations that serve limited-resource families, promote the program, and maintain evaluation records for all initiatives.

Work Environment:
The Adult Nutrition Education Specialist is an employee of Virginia Cooperative Extension and operates under the guidance of an Area Coordinator. This role requires regular travel to deliver in-person programs and foster community partnerships.

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
- Experience in conveying information, skills, or teaching.
- Proven ability to work with diverse populations, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a respectful approach to all individuals.
- Self-motivated with a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and maintain organized records.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with community resources and social service programs for limited-resource families.
- Personal or professional experience with federal nutrition assistance programs.

Additional Information:
- Regular travel within the locality is expected to provide in-person programs and establish partnerships.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for the role.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, email, and video conferencing tools.
- Capability to lift and transport educational materials and supplies (up to 20 lbs.).
- This position does not offer telework options.

The selected candidate will undergo a criminal background check and a driver's license verification with an acceptable driving record.
