Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati's Department of Biological Sciences is seeking highly qualified adjunct instructors to teach Freshman Biology labs, with opportunities to instruct other biology-related courses based on expertise and departmental needs.

Appointments are renewable based on departmental need, enrollments, and teaching performance. Teaching assignments are made on a semester-by-semester basis in 1 to 3 credit-hour sections, with required office hours to meet with students as needed.

Classes may be held during the day or evening, and every effort will be made to accommodate schedule preferences. However, individual teaching assignments will be made within the confines of the overall schedule.

Rank and compensation are based on experience and academic credentials. Adjunct instructors are eligible for benefits, including comprehensive insurance plans, flexible spending accounts, and an award-winning employee wellness program.

Essential Functions

  • Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars on a part-time basis.
  • May serve as an academic adviser for students and evaluate student coursework.
  • Engage in other activities ancillary to or in support of their responsibilities.
  • Review and respond to all University-related communications in a timely manner.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Academic degree in an appropriate discipline and prior teaching experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with individuals from various backgrounds.
