About the Role

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a highly skilled Electronics Hardware Engineer to join our R&D team. As a key member of our Industrial and Rotating Machinery group, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative analog and digital hardware solutions for our protection relay products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop conventional analog and digital circuits, and conduct design reviews to ensure product and circuit robustness.
  • Develop hardware specifications and prepare system-level specifications.
  • Write and analyze test plans, execute tests, and evaluate test results for use in peer design reviews and project notebooks.
  • Prepare and maintain product documentation, including data sheets, instruction manuals, project notebooks, design, and test documentation.
  • Provide and maintain accurate project plans, manage and/or lead hardware projects of moderate complexity, and coordinate engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in at least 2 of the following areas: analog circuit design, digital circuit design, embedded hardware design, mixed signal circuit design, power supply design, data acquisition and mixed system design, microprocessors and FPGA system design, Ethernet and fiber optic communications interface design, switching power supply design, digital design with emphasis on Programmable Logic, VHDL/Verilog, Xilinx/Altera/Micro Semi Tools, simulation, timing, analysis, and synthesis, electromagnetic compatibility and standards compliance experience, hands-on experience with prototyping, PCB layout experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: analog electronics industrial controls design, digital and mixed signal electronics design, industrial controls, 3-phase and electric power systems, electric utility telecommunications, leadership experience or training.
