Job Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator I role at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding is responsible for supporting the Environmental Health & Safety function at our 63-acre facility. This position is ideal for a candidate with a degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a closely related field, who has a minimum of 1-2 years of job-related experience in safety, healthcare, or management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Environmental Health & Safety function at our facility
  • Observe and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with company safety standards and local, state, and federal guidelines
  • Document and investigate incidents to identify root cause and determine proactive measures to prevent future incidents
  • Effectively perform and communicate Root Cause Analysis
  • Analyze and recommend measures to protect workers from hazardous work methods, processes, or materials
  • Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment
  • Assist in the maintenance of current hygiene programs, such as noise dosimetry surveys, atmospheric monitoring, ventilation surveys, or lead abatement plans
  • Ensure the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and participate in the development of materials
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies
  • Collect data samples of various materials for occupational health data collection
  • Provide general administrative support in the EHS Department
  • Maintain workers' compensation claims, SCOPE metrics, and weekly Safety Gram
  • Work with medical providers to schedule/appoint medical appointments
  • Provide transportation with a company vehicle to medical appointments
  • Ability to handle minor medical treatment and properly triage complex medical injuries or industrial incidents
  • Maintain a commitment to and promote the Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety Policies

Requirements:

  • Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of job-related experience in safety, healthcare, or management
  • Bilingual language skills (oral and written) a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint
