Job OverviewPosition Summary:

The Academic Support Tutor will collaborate with the learning specialist to deliver personalized academic assistance through peer tutoring for enrolled students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide students in mastering their coursework.
  • Offer individualized support and motivation to enhance the student’s self-confidence in their academic capabilities.
  • Promote independent learning by recommending effective study resources.
  • Engage in tutor orientation and training programs.
  • Report to and participate in regular meetings with TRIO staff.
  • Assist TRIO staff with routine office tasks, including filing, copying, and organizing.
  • Support the administration of periodic program assessments.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
  • Complete all necessary documentation accurately.
  • Ensure the tutor contact log is signed by the student after each session exceeding five minutes, including session notes.
  • Distribute tutor evaluations to students for completion at least bi-monthly and submit them to the evaluations box.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Achieved a minimum grade of 85 in the course to be tutored and secured a positive written recommendation from a relevant college instructor.
  • Maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 in core subjects.
  • Exhibited strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated responsibility, a desire to assist others, adaptability, and an open-minded, non-judgmental demeanor.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Work is typically conducted in a standard office setting.
  • Minimal physical effort is required; however, the ability to occasionally lift or move items up to 30 pounds is necessary.
  • Exposure to physical risks is very limited.
Safety Considerations:
  • Provide resources to ensure safe operations and foster a culture of workplace safety.
Application Process:
  • Obtain an application form from the TRIO office.
  • Complete and return the application to the learning specialist.
  • Participate in an interview with the learning specialist.
  • Submit recommendation forms to relevant instructors and confirm receipt with the learning specialist.

Compensation:
  • The hourly wage ranges from $10 to $12 based on experience, with a maximum of 19 hours per week.
