Job OverviewPosition Summary:

The Academic Support Tutor will collaborate with the learning specialist to deliver personalized academic assistance through peer tutoring to participants in the program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide students in enhancing their understanding of course material.
  • Offer individualized support and motivation to foster the student's self-confidence in their academic capabilities.
  • Promote independent learning by recommending effective study strategies.
  • Engage in tutor orientation and training sessions.
  • Report directly to and attend regularly scheduled meetings with the TRIO staff.
  • Assist TRIO staff with routine office tasks, such as filing, copying, and organizing.
  • Support the administration of periodic evaluations of the program.
Documentation Requirements:
  • Complete necessary documentation as required.
  • Ensure the tutor contact log is signed by the tutee after each tutoring session exceeding five minutes, including session notes.
  • Distribute tutor evaluations to students for completion at least twice a month and collect them in the evaluations box.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Achieved a minimum grade of 85 in the course to be tutored and received a positive written recommendation from a college instructor in the relevant subject area.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in core subjects.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate qualities of responsibility, a desire to assist others, adaptability, and an open-minded, non-judgmental demeanor.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Work is typically conducted in a standard office environment.
  • Minimal physical effort is required; however, the employee may occasionally need to lift or move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Exposure to physical risk is very limited.
Safety Responsibilities:
  • Provide resources to ensure safe operation of units and foster a safe workplace.
Application Process:
  • Obtain an application form from the TRIO office.
  • Complete and return the application to the learning specialist.
  • Participate in an interview with the learning specialist.
  • Submit recommendation forms to the appropriate instructors and confirm receipt with the learning specialist.

Compensation:
  • The hourly wage ranges from $10 to $12, based on experience, for a maximum of 19 hours per week.
