General Summary

Program Overview: The High School Engagement and Re-Engagement Programs aim to assist students in achieving their high school diplomas and facilitate their transition to postsecondary education. These initiatives cater to students who require re-engagement and collaborate with local school districts to support seniors in their journey to Highline College.

Position Overview: The Secondary Education Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for the strategic planning, organization, and execution of programs designed to guide students through the admissions process and into enrollment at Highline College. This role will focus on High School Engagement initiatives while also providing support for Re-engagement programming.

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Director of High School Engagement & Academic Success, the Coordinator will:
  • Collaborate with school district administrators, educators, and counselors to identify potential program participants and implement comprehensive strategies to enhance high school to postsecondary transitions;
  • Develop and deliver engaging presentations to students, parents, and school staff on College Readiness and the enrollment process;
  • Work with internal and external partners to effectively deliver project services, including admissions and funding clinics;
  • Act as the primary liaison for the program, representing Highline College to high school students;
  • Provide administrative support and creative leadership to ensure continuous improvement of program quality;
  • Enhance systems and programs to boost recruitment and enrollment at Highline College.
Advising and Student Support Programming:
  • Assist high school seniors with advising to ensure a smooth transition to Highline College;
  • Facilitate entry support, including placements, admissions, and initial registration/advising;
  • Help organize Admission & Funding clinics;
  • Manage data tracking for Admission & Funding Clinics;
  • Utilize a student-centered approach to support high school students through the admission to enrollment process;
  • Plan and execute major high school events on campus, including expos and partner breakfasts;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to enhance program participant experiences;
  • Provide general advising for high school seniors from initial interest to enrollment;
  • Manage a caseload of students from the re-engagement program after the second year of employment.
Skills, Abilities, and Characteristics
  • Ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines;
  • Strong capability to work autonomously with minimal supervision;
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality with sensitive information;
  • Exceptional customer service skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel);
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the community college mission;
  • Ability to provide support to student workers and volunteers;
  • Possession of a vehicle is required;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • This position involves extensive travel and frequent visits to high schools;
  • Strong skills in Excel and data management.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • AA/AS degree; AND
  • Two or more years of experience in community college, higher education, K-12, or working with students, demonstrating program development and engagement with youth; AND
  • Experience working with first-generation, low-income, students of color, and/or students from marginalized backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education, administration, counseling, or a related field;
  • Two or more years of experience in counseling/advising youth and program development.
