Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team in Labor and Delivery at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, providing exceptional patient care, and collaborating with our multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgical team in preparing patients for surgery, including positioning, draping, and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are in good working condition and meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure accurate and efficient surgical procedures, including sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
  • Provide exceptional patient care, including maintaining patient confidentiality, respecting patient autonomy, and promoting a positive patient experience.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date.
  • Basic knowledge and skills in surgical technologist procedures, including aseptic technique, instrument handling, and patient care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and patients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Labor and Delivery experience preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic medical records and other healthcare software systems.
