Position Summary:
The OR Support Technician plays a crucial role in delivering essential support services to the Perioperative team. This position involves executing various responsibilities as directed by the Unit Director of the Operating Room, while embodying the mission, vision, and values of Rush University Medical Center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Efficiently transport specimens collected during surgical procedures to designated testing areas, adhering to safety protocols as instructed by nursing staff.
- Communicate with the circulating RN prior to specimen removal from the operating room and perform rounds to check all rooms throughout the day.
- Respond promptly to urgent specimen delivery requests and ensure laboratory requisitions are complete before delivering specimens to the labs.
- Assist in the procurement and delivery of items, including medications and supplies, as requested by the OR Transport Services.
- Manage inventory by ordering and restocking supplies in the support technician work area.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in operating rooms and corridors, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Support nursing staff in preparing and turning over operating rooms, including the setup of equipment and supplies.
- Prepare instrumentation for return to Sterile Processing and assist in the breakdown of surgical tables.
- Monitor and document refrigerator/freezer temperatures, reporting any discrepancies to nursing management.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned and returned to proper storage areas after use.
- Prepare for the next day's patients by ensuring all necessary items are available in the operating rooms.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation.
- Capability to remain mobile and on feet for extended periods.
- Proficiency in using wireless communication devices.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple demands efficiently.
Preferred:
- Experience in an operating room setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- CNA Certification.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves lifting and carrying objects weighing 35-40 lbs and assisting in the positioning of patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs. Work conditions may involve exposure to potentially infectious materials and strong chemical agents.
