The individual must be adept at managing student behavior, delivering clear instructions, and monitoring progress towards educational objectives set by teachers or supervisors.
As a McKinney-Vento Advocate, this role focuses on assisting homeless and mobile students, as well as other vulnerable student populations, to enhance their attendance and academic achievements through innovative practices and strategies. The advocate will also reach out to families to assess eligibility for McKinney-Vento services and connect them with necessary academic and social support resources.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Holding a Bachelor's degree with corresponding skills in reading, writing, and communication.
- Demonstrating proficiency in relevant computer software required for the position.
- Effectively communicating with K-12 students on a diverse range of subjects.
- Exhibiting strong organizational skills and a solid work ethic in managing schedules and responsibilities.
- Maintaining a positive and supportive rapport with students and families while promoting adherence to school and district standards for attendance and academic success.
- Tracking and documenting data, as well as analyzing this information using available databases and spreadsheets.
- Understanding or quickly acquiring knowledge of KCSD curriculum expectations and Oregon high school graduation criteria, and conveying this information to students and families.
- Coordinating with community organizations and agencies that provide support to youth.
- Being knowledgeable about local college programs and facilitating admissions and early college credit opportunities for KCSD students.
- Flexibility in scheduling to attend meetings or coordinate services as needed.
- Possessing an Oregon Driver's License and the ability to obtain a Type 20 endorsement.
- Occasionally transporting students in a district vehicle may be necessary.
This position is classified as safety-sensitive, requiring adherence to safety regulations and protocols.
