The Catalyst Laboratory Technician is engaged in the synthesis, characterization, production, and qualification processes within the Catalyst Supply Chain. This role encompasses a range of materials, from raw substances such as aluminas and zeolites to finished catalysts and their spent forms. The technician also supports the preparation of size-specific catalyst charges for performance evaluations and the formulation of catalysts intended for deployment in refinery reactors globally. Collaboration with the Catalyst Lab team and relevant stakeholders is essential, with a focus on supporting the overall Catalyst Supply Business, including R&D and the commercialization of both raw materials and catalysts. This position demands strict adherence to laboratory safety and compliance protocols to foster a safe working environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepare laboratory-sized catalysts using specialized equipment for mixing, extruding, drying, and calcining.
- Produce small catalyst samples for analytical assessments and performance evaluations.
- Formulate complex metal solutions.
- Execute metal separation and purification techniques through solvent extraction.
- Conduct physical testing on both laboratory and commercial catalysts.
- Utilize general wet chemistry methods.
- Maintain Chemical Inventory and Catalyst Storage Inventory.
- Document data in written reports.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment, adhering to all safety and environmental regulations.
- At least one year of laboratory experience.
- Familiarity with wet chemistry procedures and analytical techniques.
- Mechanical aptitude for operating and maintaining laboratory-scale industrial equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Timely delivery of data and results.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with colleagues.
- Understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazard management.
- Commitment to safety culture.
- Strong work ethic and teamwork capabilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Flexibility to multitask and adapt to project deadlines.
- Ability to lift 40-50 lbs comfortably.
- Experience in metal separation and purification from complex solutions.
- Knowledge in the synthesis of catalyst materials.
- Familiarity with computer-controlled equipment and data management tools.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Natural Sciences, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
