Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Claims Specialist to join our team at Avista. The successful candidate will be responsible for the recovery of costs to repair and/or replace damage to Avista service facilities and equipment, as well as providing support for Claims Department activities regarding claims for damages or personal injuries against the Company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, research, and document recovery claims
  • Create billing templates, invoices, and monthly statements
  • Settle, compromise, and collect recovery claims
  • Provide excellent service to members of the public, clients, and customers
  • Prepare correspondence and engage in discussions, negotiations, and settlement of recovery claims
  • Resolve customer and client problems and concerns independently and professionally
  • Maintain records regarding recovery claims
  • Process recovery claims, including preparing and submitting billing templates, creating invoices, and monthly statements
  • Send assigned uncollectable recovery claims to collections agencies as appropriate
  • Negotiate monthly payment arrangements on assigned recovery claims and track compliance with agreements
  • Collaborate with other departments to document and invoice recovery claims
  • Research insurance carriers, file claims with insurance carriers, and correspond with insurance carriers to ensure timely collection on invoices and amounts due and owing for recovery claims that are covered by applicable insurance
  • Coordinate with local fire and law enforcement agencies to gather reports and information regarding recovery claims
  • Perform background checks on persons invoiced to determine whether there are assets to satisfy claims and/or judgments and to assist with the collection of amounts due and owing on recovery claims
Requirements
  • Three + years of progressive work experience in an office environment
  • Collections experience preferred
  • Effective and flexible communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience
  • Proficient in MS Office suite and Excel
  • Experience with CC&B, Cognos AFM, Maximo, and Oracle preferred
