Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Analyst to join our team at Western & Southern Life. As a Technical Analyst, you will play a key role in assisting in research, analysis, definition, design, testing, and planning activities, as well as applying new technologies to processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and Analysis: Participate in monitoring new developments in the software/hardware marketplace, assist in identifying new products with potential benefit to Western & Southern Life, and conduct research and analysis of these products.
  • Emerging Technology Trends: Monitor emerging technology trends, investigate their use in Western & Southern Life, and recommend adoption of new technologies/methodologies when appropriate.
  • Project Support: Provide swat team style support to development projects, resolving problems of a moderately complex, technical nature, and ensuring projects remain on track with aggressive schedules.
  • Standards and Guidelines: Assist in developing standards/guidelines that influence the implementation of new technologies throughout Western & Southern Life development staff.
  • System Development: Participate in research, definition, design, development, testing, checkout, and debugging of new systems, new technologies, and/or systems improvements.
  • Design and Development: Assist in design elements of new systems and modifications, considering time, cost, controls, and flexibility, and ensuring that programming is hardware efficient and utilizes all system tools effectively.
  • Coordination and Problem Analysis: Function as a coordinator of activities within and between programming departments and/or between operating departments and programming departments, and provide moderately complex technical and application problem analysis.
  • Project Evaluation: Assist in evaluating and determining the feasibility of proposed projects and evaluating new software packages in terms of cost, resources required, systems compatibility, etc., and make recommendations.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or commensurate selection criteria experience.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience setting goals and successfully implementing and achieving goals, citing examples of seeking to improve business and technical processes.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrated experience effectively handling customers and providing excellent service.
  • Teamwork: Demonstrated experience working effectively within a team, citing examples of motivating co-workers in difficult situations.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to function on a project level, on application and technical projects, with little or no supervision, and adapt to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change.
  • Analytical Skills: Proven strong analytical skills, including demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions.
  • Communication Skills: Possesses and displays excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear, focused, and concise manner.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, and proven skills in working in most aspects of a mainframe/communications/open systems environment.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Work Environment: Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer, or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Communication: Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports, and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously.
  • Preparation of Documents: Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports, and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Logical Thinking: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Computer Work: Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended Hours: Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.
