Manager of Natural Gas Operations

Function: Supply Chain
Job Summary: As one of North America's largest industrial consumers of natural gas, the Manager of Natural Gas Operations is a pivotal member of CF's Supply Chain organization. This individual is tasked with the daily and strategic procurement, management of price risk exposure, and ensuring a reliable supply of natural gas to CF's manufacturing facilities. In this highly visible role, the Manager of Natural Gas Operations also provides analytical support to CF's management team and other stakeholders. Job Responsibilities:Natural Gas Procurement, Management & Oversight
- Negotiates both short-term and long-term natural gas supply agreements aligned with projected production schedules, adhering to CF policies and procedures.
- Secures natural gas on behalf of CF, encompassing both physical natural gas and financial derivatives (swaps, options). Manages supply agreements, oversees the nomination process as necessary, and facilitates the buying/selling of natural gas to maintain pipeline balance.
- Secures natural gas transportation and/or storage capacity as required. Obtains transportation capacity from pipelines or from other shippers in the secondary market.
- Continuously assesses costs, usage, and tariffs to fulfill CF's objective of maintaining a low-cost, reliable supply of natural gas for its facilities.
- Develops long-range strategic plans for future sourcing, transportation, and storage agreements for review.
Energy Contract Management
- Reviews CF's natural gas master agreements (NAESBs, GasEDIs) and pursues negotiations for new master agreements as appropriate.
- Examines natural gas and transportation invoices for approval/payment and assists in resolving disputes as necessary.
Analysis & Reporting
- Regularly updates CF's management team regarding current and projected energy market trends.
- Provides various CF departments with insights on current/projected market prices, supply/demand dynamics, and other gas market developments.
- Assists in preparing presentations for internal stakeholders, senior management, and the CF Board of Directors.
- Collaborates with the CF Finance team on financial reporting reconciliation, including MTM analysis of natural gas financial derivatives as needed.
Successful Candidates Will Have:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or a related field; Master's degree is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of operational and/or commercial experience within the energy sector. Direct natural gas scheduling experience is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Energy Risk Management software (Allegro, OpenLink) is highly desirable.
- Strong planning and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in personal computer usage and proven spreadsheet analysis capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to manage both internal and external client relationships.
- Capacity to meet deadlines and function effectively in a deadline-oriented, team environment.
- Willingness/ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 10% of the time (typical trips last 2-3 days) and work non-traditional hours as required.
- Ability to work independently while exercising appropriate discretion and judgment.
- Knowledge or interest in the agricultural and/or clean energy sectors is considered an asset.
