Laboratory Manager for Tree Fruit IPM Program

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Laboratory Manager to join our team at the Wenatchee Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing lab operations, working closely with faculty, students, and hourly workers to ensure smooth operations and experimental success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage lab operations, including data collection, sample processing, and data management
  • Assist and/or lead in research projects, including experimental design, data analysis, and reporting results
  • Supervise hourly workers in data collection, sample processing, and data entry
  • Train new students and workers in data collection techniques
  • Manage safety equipment inventories, maintain safety training and equipment SOPs, and oversee regular lab cleaning activities
  • Coordinate with other staff to support program needs, including shipping, receiving, and storage of samples
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate related scientific discipline and four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience
  • Thorough understanding of the scientific method and experience writing and following scientific procedures and protocols
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to effectively interact with people in a positive manner
  • Experience in data analysis, statistics, and reporting results in formats suitable for scientific publication
  • Ability to conduct field and laboratory experiments on insects, including codling moths, X-disease vectors, and natural enemies of tree fruit pests
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six (6) additional years of experience in related field
  • Experience overseeing research throughout all stages, from experimental design through to publication of findings
  • Evidence of co-authored peer-reviewed articles, scientific reports, and scientific communication
Additional Information

This is a temporary position expected to end on December 14, 2025. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
