Job Overview

Position: OSP Field Engineer

The OSP Field Engineer plays a crucial role in executing engineering responsibilities in the field. This position involves gathering field data, measurements, photographs, and notes for various projects, including attachment applications, permits, developer plans, and other pertinent Outside Plant (OSP) engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gather, organize, and provide OSP field engineering design specifications and documentation as directed by Network Planners and Engineers.
  • Conduct inspections, propose solutions for work order issues, document discrepancies encountered, and report findings to the Network Engineer.
  • Assist in maintaining land base and Continuing Property Records (CPR) for external plant cable and pole records.
  • Manage, validate, and respond to pole Notice of Intents (NOI), Pole Application Requests (PARs), and Conduit Occupancy Requests (CORs) from electric utilities and CLEC/carriers.
  • Compile and prepare necessary joint use and permit details for applications submitted by Network Engineering to other utilities or municipal authorities for approval.
  • Support field audits as required.
  • Inspect poles, guy strands, conduits, manholes, measure aerial and underground distances, and fulfill other OSP support structure requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering firms, developers, authorities, and utilities to obtain plans for new developments, commercial complexes, public improvements, and projects involving utility placements.
  • Validate make-ready estimates received and identify cost-saving solutions.
  • Perform additional OSP engineering duties as necessary.
Educational Qualifications:
  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree program or equivalent.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering from an accredited institution is preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license.

Experience Requirements:

1 to 3 years of relevant field experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using and interpreting G/COMMs, Microstation, or AutoCAD drawings is preferred.
  • Prior experience in outside plant operations and/or knowledge of external plant network components is advantageous.
  • Experience in drafting basic and complex work orders in G/COMM for adding, upgrading, or removing copper, fiber, and pole outside plant facilities based on engineering instructions is desired.
  • Experience in updating landbase records using GPS or state plane coordinates is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of drafting experience using Microstation or AutoCAD to create and modify scaled drawings is desired.
Special Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with engineering CAD, costing, and facilities record databases is preferred.
  • Experience in customer engagement.
  • Ability to interpret land records.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not include supervisory duties.

Work Environment:
  • On-call availability for emergencies and special situations.
  • Work may occur at various locations under diverse conditions.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift, carry, set up, and take down equipment, as well as climb ladders.
  • May involve moving and lifting heavy equipment.
Salary Range: $70,000-$98,000
