About the Position

The Water Safety Instructor/Lifeguard is a key member of our Aquatics Department, responsible for planning and instructing American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes and water safety courses.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe learning environment for students by adhering to facility policies and state codes.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies as defined in the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Teach swim lessons according to American Red Cross LTS guidelines and requirements.
  • Prepare class areas, maintain aquatics spaces during lessons, and store equipment, supplies, and skills checklists after lessons.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to match students' experience and abilities, and develop effective strategies to help them meet course objectives.
  • Communicate student and parent concerns, comments, and questions to the supervisor or Manager on Duty.
  • Supervise participants while they practice course skills, providing timely, positive, and corrective feedback.
  • Evaluate participants' performance, focusing on critical steps as described in course outlines, and communicate progress to students and/or parents.
  • Complete and maintain records and reports by taking attendance and recording daily report cards.
  • Assist with participant registration and promotion of American Red Cross Aquatics programs.
  • Promote group swim lessons and other aquatics programs.
  • Work Lifeguard shifts at the discretion of the Aquatics Manager.
  • Attend and participate in regular Service Game training sessions as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance, wearing the MVP Sports Clubs uniform and name badge.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or 16 years of age.
  • First Aid/CPR Training, with in-house training provided for team members without certifications.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Ability to supervise groups of people, including children, to ensure safety and facility rules.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and mornings.
  • Physical Requirements: Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, and turn/pivot; Lift/lower, push, pull, and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with assigned tasks.
