The role involves adhering to various procedural mandates, including data collection, insurance validation, service authorizations, and collection of patient liabilities, including any outstanding balances. The Healthcare Access team is integral to achieving favorable financial outcomes for all patient services while ensuring compliance with federal regulations, accreditation standards, and health department guidelines. This position requires effective communication with patients, families, healthcare providers, insurance entities, and third-party payers. A professional demeanor, strong communication abilities, and excellent organizational skills are essential. Dependability, adaptability, and teamwork are vital attributes for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Diligently inputs all necessary data for patient scheduling and registration, including demographic and financial details, guarantor information, and pertinent notes related to the encounter.
• Confirms insurance eligibility and secures required authorizations for provided services.
• Computes and collects the estimated patient responsibility based on insurance benefits and prior balances.
• Conducts financial assessments to determine eligibility for assistance programs.
• Clearly communicates the purpose of documents and secures signatures from patients or legal guardians on all essential hospital forms.
• Represents the Patient Access department with professionalism and courtesy at all times.
• Assists the hospital during internal or external emergencies as needed.
• Adapts to the department's needs to manage patient volume effectively, which may involve reassignment to different areas or shifts.
• Contributes to achieving departmental performance goals.
• Completes mandatory training and development as required.
• Adheres to established standard processes and maintains team discipline.
• Collaborates with High Performance Work Teams (HPWT) to ensure a clean, efficient, and organized work environment following 5S principles.
• Coordinates and assists in monitoring workflow to manage varying patient volumes.
• Provides constructive feedback to identify educational and mediation needs by reporting issues and opportunities.
• Demonstrates the ability to fulfill assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets the specific needs of the patient population served.
• Adjusts assessment and service methods to cater to the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient.
• Takes personal accountability for compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and standards set by regulatory bodies and the healthcare institution.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and refrains from disclosing any sensitive information unless necessary for job functions.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
Experience
- 1 – 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
