Position Overview

This technical role is essential for supporting and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and initiatives within the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The primary responsibilities include overseeing environmental programs and ensuring adherence to compliance standards. This position reports to the Environmental Manager and is part of the Planning and Environmental Division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and direction for routine compliance inspections related to permits and ordinances, including stormwater, air pollutants, and waste management.
  • Ensure compliance with the organization's approved Spill Prevention Countermeasure and Control (SPCC) Program.
  • Manage the SPCC Program and assist in monitoring and reporting to environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Represent environmental interests in project construction support and attend relevant project review meetings.
  • Supervise environmental remediation projects and collaborate with contracted consultants to ensure compliance with testing and corrective actions.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with sedimentation and erosion control regulations on projects.
  • Respond to environmental emergencies, including fuel spills and HazMat incidents.
  • Conduct assessments for potential health risks such as Asbestos and Lead paint.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents and reports related to environmental programs.
  • Participate in meetings with staff and external agencies regarding environmental considerations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Applicants should possess a strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulatory laws, as well as basic permitting requirements for large industrial facilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for report preparation and data compilation is essential. Candidates must demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. The role will require a balance of office work and field inspections.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, earth sciences, geology, hydrogeology, or a related technical field is required, along with coursework in environmental subjects. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience and three years of relevant work experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist in the relevant jurisdiction is advantageous.
