Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Service Representative 4 to join our team at the State of Oregon. As a Public Service Representative 4, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to the public, handling complex inquiries, and making informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely and accurate identification and decision-making for approval or disqualification of firearm transfers for federally licensed firearms dealers and private parties.
  • Communicate and explain rules and regulations to customers, respond to customer complaints and challenges to decisions made by the unit.
  • Conduct research of databases, courts, law enforcement agencies, and other government agencies to gather information used to make decisions regarding the approval, delay, or denial of a firearms purchase.
  • Document all interactions and decisions made in a clear and concise manner.
  • Provide credible sworn testimony in a criminal or civil proceeding arising from the performance of duties.
Requirements
  • Three years of experience performing public contact and/or customer service duties comparable to the work of a Public Service Representative.
  • At least two years of this experience must include dealing with the public in-person or by phone providing information about services and programs; explaining rules, programs, and procedures; and/or providing assistance, explaining requirements, and gaining compliance.
  • Preference may be given for experience providing service in an area of specialization specific to the position opening.
Preferred Skills
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal firearm disqualifiers/prohibitors.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as a regular schedule.
  • Demonstrate independent judgment to analyze data received to make a decision or determination.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate experience and proficiency with office technology, including software, various computer applications, copiers, printers, and scanners.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply policies and procedures to job duties.
Special Qualifications
  • LEDS certified, or able to obtain certification upon hire.
