Ayer, Massachusetts, United States Justice, Bureau of PrisonsFederal Prison System Full time

Overview
Corrections professionals play a crucial role in creating a secure and compassionate environment, ensuring public safety by preparing individuals for successful reintegration into society.

Our dedicated, diverse, and innovative workforce lays the groundwork for safety and security. By adhering to principles of humanity and normalcy, we strive to cultivate responsible community members.

Key Responsibilities
This role serves as a Clinical Treatment Specialist within a federal correctional facility. The primary responsibility involves delivering comprehensive psychological services to inmates enrolled in the Sex Offender Program (SOP). The specialist's main function is to provide treatment and behavioral management services tailored for the SOP.

The specialist may offer direct services from a residential treatment program within the facility, which accommodates and supports offenders, or to inmates engaged in non-residential sex offender treatment or management services.

Responsibilities include assisting in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of various assessment tools and procedures, including specialized instruments for sex offenders, under the guidance of a doctoral-level psychologist.

Additionally, the specialist is required to analyze data from direct interviews with participants and review records containing social, educational, personal, and institutional adjustment information to aid in the preparation of reports for multiple purposes.

These reports may encompass behavioral management plans to mitigate risks within the institution or community, discharge reports for offenders transitioning back to society, pre-certification reviews for inmates considered for certification as sexually dangerous individuals, and clinical case management documentation for inmates involved in SOP components.

Alongside all other correctional institution personnel, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining the security of the facility. The security duties take precedence over all other responsibilities associated with this position and are performed regularly.

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Basic Requirements: A degree with at least 24 semester hours in behavioral or social sciences, or a combination of education and experience that meets this requirement.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in casework within a correctional institution or a related criminal justice setting, or counseling experience requiring diagnostic or treatment planning skills.
  • Education: For GL-09, two years of graduate education leading to a master's degree; for GS-11, three years of graduate education leading to a doctoral degree.

All applicants must provide proof of eligibility and meet additional selective factors as outlined in the qualifications section.
