Director of Research Administration

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Director of Research Administration. This position will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to the research administration team, ensuring the effective management of sponsored research projects and compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities- Pre-Award Administration: Develop and implement policies and procedures for pre-award research administration, ensuring alignment with University requirements and best practices.
- Post-Award Administration: Oversee the post-award research administration team, ensuring compliance with sponsor and University regulations, and providing guidance on financial management and reporting.
- Staff Supervision and Performance Management: Lead and develop the research administration team, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to ensure high-quality performance and professional growth.
- Reporting and Compliance: Develop and maintain reports on research portfolio performance, ensuring timely and accurate data submission to University leadership and external stakeholders.
- Strategic Support: Collaborate with University leadership and departments to develop and implement strategic initiatives related to sponsored research, ensuring alignment with University goals and objectives.
- Master's degree in a related field or equivalent experience;
- Significant experience in grants and contracts management, with a focus on pre-award and post-award administration;
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with a track record of developing and managing high-performing teams;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and policies;
- Proficiency in research administration software and systems, with a strong understanding of University policies and procedures.
- Experience working in a higher education or research institution;
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) designation.
