Position Summary for Quality Inspector:
The Quality Inspector is essential in maintaining product excellence and ensuring customer satisfaction through the development and implementation of measurement strategies and stringent inspection protocols. The ideal candidate will possess 3-5 years of practical machining experience within a job shop context, utilizing their knowledge to provide critical insights to machinists, ensuring that all produced components adhere to both internal and client specifications. This role requires adeptness with various measurement instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and CMMs, alongside strong analytical skills and the capacity to make informed decisions in high-pressure situations. The Quality Inspector is vital in preserving the integrity of our manufacturing operations, enhancing product quality, and fostering continuous improvement within our collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Quality Inspector:
- Utilize measurement tools effectively while adapting to diverse customer requirements.
- Interpret engineering drawings and 3D models with a strong command of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Develop and implement measurement plans for each component prior to production, ensuring compliance with various quality standards.
- Conduct comprehensive inspections, evaluating 25-50 features per component to uphold high quality benchmarks.
- Collaborate with machinists to troubleshoot and enhance production workflows for consistent quality outcomes.
- Apply hands-on machining expertise to resolve issues and support team initiatives.
- Guide machinists on the effective use of inspection tools both in the quality area and on the production floor.
- Operate CMMs, Vision Systems, and Comparators proficiently.
- Prepare First Article Inspection documentation, including measurement plans and print ballooning.
- Engage in calibration and internal audits as necessary.
- Exhibit full compliance with Fathom's Quality Management System.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 3-5 years of machining experience in a job shop setting.
- 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T.
- Skilled in the use of calipers, micrometers, and CMMs.
- Exceptional attention to detail in measurement planning and component inspection.
- Strong communication abilities for effective interaction with customers and machinists.
- Capability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
- Adaptable and skilled in fast-paced team environments.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for CNC setups.
- Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
- Technical certification or an associate degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Experience with CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks is advantageous.
- ASQ Certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with both metric and imperial measurement systems.
Work Hours: 5:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., Monday - Thursday
Compensation: $25 - $35 per hour
