Job Summary

The Food Safety and Quality Manager will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of all products produced in the plant. This individual will work closely with the Director of Food Safety Quality to develop and implement quality and safety programs, and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable food laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement quality and safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable food laws and regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of processes and procedures to ensure quality and safety standards are being met.
  • Train and develop subordinates in the performance of their duties.
  • Manage plant timelines and critical milestones for the Food Safety and Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Interpret, analyze, and communicate quality and safety issues, both internal and external.
  • Ensure compliance to all applicable regulatory agency requirements.
  • Liaison with local regulatory agencies and provide leadership for compliance to food safety and quality programs.
  • Implement and maintain quality programs, including HACCP, SQF certification, and environmental monitoring.
  • Develop corrective action plans when quality or safety deficiencies are identified.
  • Be a liaison for all technical and QC issues between operations, R&D, and sales/marketing departments.
  • Provide corporate with quality assurance assistance involving vendor issues.
  • Oversee product quality with regards new product implementation and introduction into market.
Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Biology, Food Science, or other related program.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to train and teach others.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management or public groups.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Skills in monitoring and measurement of process control, auditing, manufacturing of food products, sanitation process, knowledge of HACCP, SSOP regulations, skills in team leadership, effective communication, and root cause analysis.
Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
