Job Overview:

The position involves conducting experimental laboratory research and assisting in the design of specific phases of comprehensive projects. Responsibilities include performing mathematical calculations, computer tasks, and evaluating the validity of research data. Adherence to established protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, as well as Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementing protocols, designing, setting up, and executing fundamental experiments.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting experimental protocols and data, providing recommendations for process improvements, validity, and accuracy.
  • Utilizing advanced skills to perform the following tasks:

Molecular Biology:

  • Isolation, purification, and expression of DNA, RNA, and proteins; Western blotting.
  • Conducting PCR and RT-PCR.
  • Preparing plasmids.
  • Cloning, mapping, and sequencing DNA.

Cellular Biology:

  • Performing cell culture and isolation.
  • Conducting functional studies.
  • Executing transfection procedures.

Histology:

  • Fixing and processing tissues: embedding, block preparation, sectioning, and staining.
  • Conducting immunohistochemistry.
  • Utilizing microscopy techniques.

Animal Care:

  • Managing husbandry practices.
  • Breeding and screening transgenic mice.
  • Overseeing database management for the colony.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintaining detailed records of results, including data collection, extraction, and entry.
  • Interpreting and presenting results.
  • Preparing charts and graphs for presentations and publications.
  • Conducting scientific literature searches to support research efforts.
  • Assisting in the preparation of grant applications, manuscripts, and publications.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Tracking and summarizing laboratory supply expenses.
  • Verifying the accuracy of invoices.
  • Ordering and maintaining inventory of reagents, mice, and laboratory supplies.

Supervisory Role:

  • Training students and providing guidance.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited institution leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific discipline or a relevant combination of education and experience.

Required Competencies:

  • Proven laboratory experience.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions as outlined in research protocols.
  • Proficient computer skills, including spreadsheets and basic calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Manual dexterity is essential.

The target hiring range for this position is between $19.89 to $27.97 per hour. The offered salary will be determined based on the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and market alignment.
