Job Overview

The role of Lead Nursing Supervisor encompasses the provision of administrative assistance in the absence of the site manager, requiring exceptional organizational skills, leadership capabilities, and clinical nursing knowledge. This position collaborates with healthcare professionals and providers to ensure comprehensive patient care and promote health throughout the patient's life. Additionally, it involves coordination with other healthcare facilities and community organizations to maintain continuity of care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Nursing Services

  • Assess immediate and long-term physical, mental, and social healthcare requirements of individuals and families.
  • Implement age-appropriate principles and cultural considerations to develop a nursing care strategy.
  • Assist individuals and families in scheduling follow-up care and delivering patient education.
  • Support individuals and families during wellness and injury periods, adhering to the medical care plan as necessary.

Initiate necessary actions through direct interaction, telephone communication, or referrals based on established guidelines.

B. Managed Care

  • Facilitate referrals by securing required authorizations from health insurance providers, scheduling appointments, and informing patients as necessary. Follow up on results and no-shows. Maintain essential logs.
  • Work in conjunction with Health Center Staff to manage and oversee referrals, improving the overall process.

C. Coordinated Care/Patient-Centered Medical Care Management

  • Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Exhibit understanding of the patient care management plan goals and objectives.
  • Effectively perform and communicate individual responsibilities within the assigned role.

D. Quality Improvement/Risk Management

  • Oversee and assess records and reports vital for patient care and program efficiency while taking necessary actions to achieve these objectives.
  • Stay informed about new policies and procedures, ensuring compliance among ancillary staff.

E. Clinic Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and ongoing support to ancillary healthcare personnel.
  • Identify training needs among staff and engage in training initiatives.
  • Offer constructive feedback to supervisory staff during annual evaluations of ancillary personnel.
  • Supervise nursing students during their clinical preceptorship.

F. Charge Nurse Duties

  • Oversee and submit staff payroll.
  • Assist with resolving technical issues related to computers, printers, faxes, and copiers.
  • Supervise facility maintenance.
  • Monitor staff schedules and attendance to ensure adherence to standard hours.
  • Coordinate daily staffing schedule modifications.
  • Supervise training and development for HCAs and RNs, addressing performance issues as they arise.
  • Support initiatives for practice growth.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS and EXPERIENCE

A degree in Nursing (Associates or Bachelors) from an accredited institution is essential. A valid nursing license is required. A minimum of three years of nursing experience in a hospital, public health, or community health environment is necessary. Previous supervisory experience in a charge nurse role is advantageous.
