About the Role

Amazon Robotics is on the lookout for a Lead Robotics Research Scientist to innovate and enhance advanced algorithms that govern a vast fleet of mobile robots within Amazon's order fulfillment ecosystem. This position offers the opportunity to tackle intricate planning and coordination challenges, allowing you to witness your innovative solutions in action within Amazon's operational facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the scientific aspects of planning and scheduling fleet operations to meet overarching system objectives across diverse building types and workflows.
  • Refine existing algorithms that manage the global robotic fleet, unlocking new possibilities for Amazon's dynamic network.
  • Develop new capabilities from the ground up, leveraging the potential of our robotic mobility foundation model to forecast fleet movements and facilitate large-scale decision-making.
  • Influence the architectural design of future warehouses and the integration of emerging robotic technologies.

About Our Team

Our interdisciplinary science team comprises experts in simulation, planning and scheduling, manipulation, machine learning, and operations research. We focus on:

  • Coordinating the movements of thousands of robots.
  • Dynamic task allocation and scheduling for a large fleet of robots.
  • Adapting system behavior to fluctuating operational conditions.
  • Co-designing robotic logistics processes and the algorithms that optimize them.

Our team also acts as a catalyst for innovation, supporting scientists across Amazon Robotics and facilitating research collaborations with academic institutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Over 10 years of extensive research experience post-PhD.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Java, or Python.
  • Experience with cutting-edge planning and machine learning methodologies.
  • A strong publication record with contributions to prominent conferences and journals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing algorithms for real-world planning and control applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of related fields, including optimization, heuristic search, and deep learning.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Proven capability to identify unresolved challenges and invent creative solutions.
  • A demonstrated history of innovation.
