Overview

Under the guidance of the Regional Coordinator, the School-Age Program Center Director holds primary responsibility for the excellence and effectiveness of the program's operations, including the well-being of its participants and staff. The Director's key role is to oversee the daily management of the preschool program, ensuring high standards of care and education.

The Director must possess the capability to efficiently manage, nurture, direct, and inspire both personnel and the center's initiatives. This position necessitates a solid understanding of licensing regulations (Title 22 and/or Title 5) and NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) standards, as well as Desired Results criteria. Additionally, the role requires the ability to:

  1. Investigate, assess, and recommend program strategies that align with PACCC and center goals;
  2. Evaluate and monitor existing programs in relation to contemporary trends;
  3. Develop and modify program approaches to ensure fairness, legal adherence, and market competitiveness;
  4. Guide and enhance staff in utilizing age-appropriate program methodologies and tools such as NAEYC/Desired Results standards;
  5. Collaborate proactively with PACCC administration, demonstrating effective teamwork;
  6. Uphold confidentiality and represent PACCC positively at all times.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a robust understanding of child care programs and licensing standards, typically acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or a related discipline. A minimum of five years of supervisory and program development experience is preferred, with at least two years involving staff oversight and program enhancement. Candidates must possess or be able to complete three or more semester units in Early Childhood Program Administration. A Child Development Site Supervisor permit is required.

Afterschool Program Requirements

Minimum qualifications include the completion of 24 semester units in Early Childhood Education, including Core units, or 24 semester units in relevant fields such as Recreation, Physical Education, Human Services, Social Welfare, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, Home Economics, ECE, Child Development, or School Age classes. Additionally, all candidates must have completed the equivalent of 3 semester units in an administrative course.

Preferred qualifications include any combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year college degree with a major in Child Development or a related field. Experience with Desired Results assessments is also preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be vaccinated for measles and pertussis; must obtain an annual flu vaccine or provide a signed declination form; must be tested for TB upon hire.
  • Must complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Must pass a fingerprint background clearance check.
