The Senior PCB Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in establishing internal design standards for printed circuit board (PCB) layouts. This position involves a wide range of design responsibilities aimed at producing PCBs for Rantec's power supply solutions. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of material science and its implications on PCB design. The role requires collaboration with PCB manufacturers to ensure compatibility with production processes, along with the creation of schematics, component layouts, and supporting documentation for manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Design printed circuit boards and develop internal guidelines for PCB design. Translate initial engineering concepts and sketches into detailed schematics and layouts.
- Promote manufacturability in design processes. Utilize knowledge of Quad data processes to enhance surface-mount technology (SMT) manufacturing. Stay updated on current manufacturing techniques and industry trends.
- Oversee electronic libraries of schematic symbols and component models to ensure design accuracy and compliance with IPC standards.
- Prepare fabrication drawings and manufacturing data necessary for procuring stencils and circuit boards.
- Create comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including Quad files, assembly drawings, parts lists, and bills of materials.
- Issue Engineering Change Notices to maintain design integrity and configuration control.
- Support design efforts for manufacturing and testing, including test fixtures and ATE systems.
- Engage in product realization activities, including design reviews and engineering meetings to provide necessary design input.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or materials engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in PCB design/layout, with a focus on surface-mount technology and power supply systems.
- Proficiency in Altium; familiarity with industry standards such as IPC and IEEE.
- Experience with CAD and PCB layout software, including Microstation and Mentor Graphics tools.
- In-depth understanding of PCB fabrication, material selection, and processing.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities to address design challenges.
