Position Summary:

The Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department seeks a postdoctoral associate specializing in hydrologic and nutrient transport modeling within the vadose zone. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and utilizing hydrologic models and contributing to the creation of a decision support system (DSS) aimed at evaluating water and nutrient best management practices (BMPs) across various groundwater environments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collect and analyze soil, water, and plant data from diverse agricultural sites.
2. Develop predictive models for subsurface water and nutrient transport in both well-drained and poorly-drained soils.
3. Conduct experiments on high-value crops under varying nutrient inputs, irrigation, drainage, and weather conditions.
4. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate predictions with plant, soil, water, and economic data for effective nutrient and water management.
5. Prepare reports, manuscripts, and proposals, and present findings at conferences and stakeholder meetings.

Position Availability:

This position is available immediately with an initial appointment for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in agricultural, biological, civil, or environmental engineering, or related physical sciences. A strong background in hydrologic modeling and nutrient transport processes is essential. Candidates should align with the mission of the Land-Grant system and demonstrate a commitment to core values.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with subsurface hydrologic models (e.g., HYDRUS) is preferred. Knowledge in irrigation management and machine learning models is advantageous.
