Humana is looking for a Federal Income Tax Compliance Manager to oversee the Federal income tax compliance and audit processes, ensuring the company minimizes its tax liabilities while upholding its reputation as a responsible taxpayer. This role will report to the AVP, Tax and will collaborate closely with various departments including accounting, finance, treasury, investments, corporate development, and legal.

  • Develop and implement the strategy for preparing Humana's consolidated, mixed-use Form 1120 within the Thomson Reuters OneSource framework, which includes the preparation and assessment of significant book-tax variances and intercompany eliminations, as well as calculating quarterly Federal income tax estimated payments.
  • Lead the Federal tax examination and appeals processes under the IRS Compliance Assurance Process ('CAP' or 'CAP Maintenance').
  • Oversee Humana's corporate structure and legal entity rationalization efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team and external preparers to ensure the completion of income tax compliance for Humana's joint venture activities.
  • Manage the preparation of Humana's Quarterly Federal Excise Tax Return (Form 720), Return of Private Foundation (Form 990-PF), and select separate C-corporate (Form 1120) and partnership (Form 1065) returns, including state return submissions.
  • Partner with the Director of Tax to support M&A activities, including front-end due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
  • Stay informed on tax law changes to evaluate their impact on the business and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Drive the transformation of tax systems to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of tax reporting and compliance.
  • Assist with compliance and reporting matters related to employer-provided aircraft.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to multiple direct reports while fostering a culture of process improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • CPA certification.
  • Over 7 years of relevant tax experience, with a deep understanding of the Internal Revenue Code, consolidated returns, and state income taxation.
  • Strong grasp of financial statements and GAAP accounting, including familiarity with tax provision systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience managing complex organizational structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than 4 years of leadership experience in a corporate environment.
  • Familiarity with OneSource tax systems.
  • Knowledge of Internal Revenue Code Subchapter L - Insurance Companies and ASC 740 - Income Taxes.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications, with salaries ranging from $93,000 to $128,000 per year. This position is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.
