The Patient Support Associate is responsible for delivering safe and appropriate non-skilled therapeutic interventions as designated. Responsibilities include supervising patients to ensure their safety, transporting patients in preparation for treatment, gathering and preparing necessary equipment for patient care, and maintaining a clean environment. The Patient Support Associate may also undertake additional clerical tasks within the staffing office as required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to endure up to four hours of continuous work. Capacity for one and a half hours of uninterrupted sitting and one hour of independent mobility. Capability to safely transfer patients and provide contact guarding or hands-on assistance. Ability to lift or carry items weighing up to 10 pounds continuously, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 40 pounds occasionally for patient transfers and bed mobility. Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds regularly throughout the day for patient transport and mobility tasks. Frequent need to change body positions to access equipment from various heights while providing treatment interventions. Functional fine and gross motor skills and upper extremity sensation are necessary. Clear vision is essential for observing patients' non-verbal cues and conducting skin assessments. Must be able to initiate and interpret communication with patients and others.COGNITIVE DEMANDS

The role requires the application of previously acquired knowledge, along with flexibility of thought, reasoning, organizational skills, and the ability to act in new or unfamiliar situations. Selective attention and concentration are crucial for task completion.Basic formulation, content, syntax, and spelling skills are necessary for task completion. Only simple sentence or very short paragraph expression is required.Spontaneous communication and the ability to receive and convey messages are essential.Ability to comprehend lengthy messages or paragraphs and follow multi-step and three-step commands is necessary.Tasks require the ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, including adding and subtracting two-digit numbers and multiplying and dividing by 2, 3, 4, and 5.WORK DEMANDS

The position primarily involves indoor work, with occasional outdoor requirements. Continuous interaction with others is necessary. Task schedules may fluctuate frequently and unpredictably due to patient-specific needs. Work is often conducted in a noisy and somewhat crowded environment. There is potential exposure to body fluids, contagious diseases, and bloodborne pathogens. Occasional exposure to particles, chemicals, electrical, and/or thermal agents that could cause irritation is possible.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists in lifting, transporting, turning, guarding, and overall patient handling using proper body mechanics and safety protocols.Provides observation and direct assistance with patient activities as directed by licensed nursing staff.Demonstrates proficiency in using patient-related equipment as instructed.Observes and reports any changes in patient condition to the appropriate team members.Assists with meal setup and feeding as needed.Helps maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of unit areas.Accurately documents assigned tasks in a timely manner using the appropriate formats.Orders patient equipment and supplies as directed.Organizes and cleans equipment and supplies as instructed.Monitors stock levels and maintains orderly storage of equipment and supplies on the unit as assigned.Sets up and cleans treatment areas (e.g., pillows, linens, mats, treatment tables, etc.).Performs miscellaneous clerical and staffing office duties as required.Prioritizes tasks to complete assignments, seeking supervisory guidance as necessary.
