POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chemical Manufacturing Laboratory Technician will report directly to the Materials Processing Manager Group. This role encompasses daily responsibilities related to the development and production of LAL IOL components. The technician will primarily focus on the processing of production materials and conducting in-process materials evaluations. Additionally, the technician will assist with various formulation chemistry laboratory tasks, including materials testing and maintaining overall laboratory organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and maintain wiped film evaporators, including assembly, disassembly, and cleaning.
  • Conduct materials purification utilizing chromatography techniques and perform testing with UV-vis, FTIR, GPC, refractometer, and viscometer.
  • Collect and analyze data effectively.
  • Assist in managing the inventory of chemicals and consumables.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient understanding of basic materials characterization techniques (UV-Vis, FTIR, GPC, RI) is essential.
  • Solid foundation in chemistry and fundamental mathematics.
  • Demonstrated reliability, accountability, attention to detail, and self-motivation.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:

  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in a wet chemistry laboratory is preferred.
  • Familiarity with wiped film evaporators is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field is required.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Completion of training as outlined in the training plan for this position is necessary.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • No specific certifications are required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Experience with Smartsheets is beneficial.
