Position Summary:

The Cleanroom Formulation Specialist will report directly to the Manager of the Manufacturing Chemistry Group. This role is crucial for the daily operations related to the development and production of LAL (Lipid-Attached Liposomes). The primary focus will be on adhering to established protocols and executing each phase of the formulation process within a cleanroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Cleanroom Operations:

  • Prepare LAL components (including Part J, K, F, M, G, bulk, posterior, anterior) to facilitate lens production in a cleanroom environment, strictly following established procedures.
  • Formulate silicone-based mixtures utilizing various preparation techniques and mixing protocols.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the workspace.
  • Follow safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment.

Documentation and Inventory Management:

  • Maintain comprehensive logs of mixing activities, documenting batch numbers, quantities, and production dates.
  • Assist in managing inventory, including raw materials, reagents, and consumables.
  • Work collaboratively with senior technicians and quality control staff to troubleshoot and resolve production challenges.

Laboratory Support:

  • Prepare base baths, clean laboratory glassware, and assemble material mixing kits.
  • Support thorough data collection, documentation, and management.
  • Be open to training and executing tasks beyond the immediate job description as needed.

Additionally, employees may receive certification to lead specific processes upon demonstrating mastery and fulfilling the outlined criteria. This role carries a heightened level of responsibility to ensure effective training, execution, and mastery of certified processes.

Qualifications:

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in material handling and chemistry is essential.
  • A foundational understanding of chemical processes is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a cleanroom or chemistry laboratory is mandatory.
  • Professional demeanor, accountability, and energy are crucial.
  • Familiarity with basic materials characterization techniques (UV-Vis, Comparator, Durometer) is beneficial.
  • Experience with silicone and silicone-based resins is advantageous.
  • Must be a self-starter, well-organized, and possess strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • A genuine curiosity and eagerness to learn are essential traits.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not include supervisory duties.

Education and Training:

  • An Associate's degree or three to five years of relevant experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the chemical or medical device industry.
  • Prior experience in a cleanroom environment is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is required.
  • Training requirements must be completed as outlined in the training plan for this position.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • No specific certifications are required.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
