Job Overview:

SUMMARY
The Campus Safety Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and securing the facilities, buildings, and grounds, identifying unauthorized individuals or activities, and recognizing unsafe conditions. This role is essential in maintaining a visible presence to deter potential criminal actions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conducting routine patrols of designated areas and campus facilities. This includes monitoring various college buildings and properties, which may involve specific locations, assignments, or special events.


Identifying and reporting faulty or unsafe utility equipment, as well as any obstructions on pathways or unusual conditions that could pose risks to public safety.


Monitoring and reporting any criminal activities or incidents that may threaten the safety and security of the campus community.

Assisting in preliminary investigations and supporting higher-level officers in fact-finding missions or specific projects.

Providing testimony in court as a witness for incidents occurring within the college community when necessary.

Offering directions and information to college staff, students, and the general public.

Granting access to authorized personnel for locked buildings during secure hours.


Maintaining regular communication with the dispatch center to respond to service calls, report unusual situations, and request backup when needed.

Completing necessary administrative documentation and reports as required.

Managing traffic, enforcing parking regulations, servicing parking equipment, and collecting fees for special events.

Cooperating with local law enforcement agencies during emergencies.

Providing escort services and transporting visitors, staff, and students as directed; facilitating authorized off-campus pickups and deliveries.


Adhering to all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA safety standards relevant to the essential functions of the position.

Utilizing college-prescribed software programs, including training, email, and payroll systems.

Performing other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Current certifications in First Aid and CPR

Must obtain certifications in State of Ohio Security Officer, AED, Awareness of HazMat, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Personal Awareness Protection Equipment within the first 120 days of employment

Skills in keyboarding, basic math, grammar, and proficiency in standard word processing (MS Word) and/or spreadsheet applications (MS Excel)

Proficiency with email software (MS Outlook) and the Internet

Must meet the college's insurability requirements

Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population

Must be a U.S. citizen

Must be at least 21 years of age

Ability to successfully complete a thorough background check, physical examination, polygraph or voice stress analysis, and psychological evaluation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience in a security role.

Possession of a State of Ohio Security Officer Certification and/or current enrollment in the Cuyahoga Community College Police Academy

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must be able to regularly stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.

Must be able to frequently talk or hear, taste, and smell. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Special vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to occasionally work with bio-hazards. Must be able to regularly work in wet or humid conditions, in outdoor weather conditions, and extreme cold or heat. Must be able to work in an environment with a moderate noise level.

Special Note:
This is a Part-time AFSCME Bargaining Unit position, Grade 2, 1st shift.
AFSCME Employees employed with Community College will be considered first for vacant positions.

Target Hiring Rate:
Minimum rate $19.42/hr
